Meeting Minutes

March 6th 2003

Old Business

Bus Trip
The sign-up sheet was passed around for members planning to go on the bus trip to
Canada on May 10th. All were reminded that proper identification papers would be mandatory to assure getting back into the U.S. Suggestions were: Passports (expired or current), Driver¹s Licenses and Birth Certificates.  To prevent the entire bus being held up by someone with inadequate identification, we will want to check everyone’s ID before they get on the bus in the morning.

Rhododendron Show
A sign-up sheet was passed around for volunteers to help with the show on April 25th through April 27th.

Shirley Rock and Barbara Blankenship have rhododendron photographs that will be used to promote plants for sale at the show.

New Business
The chapter was asked to assist in identifying large older rhododendron plants at the
Everett Evergreen Cemetery. It was moved, seconded and passed that a group of member volunteers would work on this project on Saturdays during the blooming season. However, a volunteer group was not organized.

A possible new member, Laurel Winebrenner from the Clearview area, attended the meeting.

Terry Maczuga of the Cloud Mountain Farm presented an excellent program about dwarf conifers. Slides demonstrated the use of special clones of dwarf conifers in the garden, creating different shapes, textures and colors for year round interest. She provided a good selection of small dwarf conifers for sale and members quickly snapped them up. Our usual plant auction and raffle followed.

Old Journals Available

Mike Mulholland has donated his collection of ARS Journals to the chapter.  There is a complete set from fall of 1993 to Summer of 1999.  It has been decided to make them available to chapter members that would like to have them for a nominal fee.  Contact Barbara Blankenship if you are interested.

Miscellaneous

The dates for the Pilchuck Flower Show have been moved to May 15-18.  We got bumped.
