The meeting started at 7:30 PM with Barbara Blankenship reading the corrected list of the Board of Directors for next year. They are Dave Hammond, Fred Kirby and Chuck Blankenship. Shirley Rock reported on the upcoming Flower Show at the Everett Mall, on April 30th through May 2.. Planning to make room for 600 trusses. She has pictures of all the plants that will be for sale, and is in the process of getting them laminated for display. There will be plenty of bottles under the display table. The papers for identifying your trusses for entry into the contest will be available during “setup” and/or when you bring your trusses for show. Dee Daneri, the Executive Director of the ARS has submitted a letter requesting acceptance of her retirement from her position. A letter to this effect, from the ARS President, Mike Kirby was read by Barbara. Our guest speaker, Steve Hootman, of the Rhododendron Species Foundation, spoke and showed slides of his latest trip to India, Nepal and surrounding country seeking specific Rhododendron species, seen but not recently collected in the surrounding areas of the Himalayas. It was an excellent program, and very entertaining. There were many plants for both the raffle and auction. Almost everyone went home with at least one plant. It was noted that very few actually signed up for helping at the Flower Show. It is hoped this is not a sign of the times, where our chapter members are losing interest in a very fine and profitable program. It is the Flower Show that provides the funds for our annual bus trip. Please sign up and come to the Show and lend a hand. |
