There were no minutes from the January meeting which was cancelled because of in climate weather. Greg Winters called the meeting to order at 7:30 and introduced Kristi O’Donnell from Meerkerk Gardens, who gave a very enlightening introduction to the people and the gardens of Meerkerk. She emphasized the desire of the staff to keep the wishes of Mrs Meerkerk alive by keeping the gardens as a small and friendly place. There may have been temptations over the years to change to the more formal gardens we see in other areas but the decision has always been to honor the vision of Mrs Meerkerk. Kristi’s presentation was met with great enthusiasm by the chapter. There was a discussion of the proposed May trip to Oregon Gardens East of Salem. It was agreed we would leave early Saturday and return Sunday, with no stopovers on the way home. Several gardens for visitation were suggested for the Southbound trip. It is hoped these plans can be finalized by next meeting. There is a planned board meeting to resolve some of the issues. The treasurer noted that this trip would more than deplete the cash in our checking with the need to retire at least one CD to cover the expected expenses. Although reservations have been made at the Everett Mall for our Mother’s Day weekend “Plant & Flower Show”, there may be unforeseen difficulties with the major remodeling, the new ownership and the ever present threat of being “bumped” by other organizations under contract with Mall management. Last year we were “bumped” from our requested location and as a result experienced a substantial loss from the “Show”. A raffle and auction were conducted in the latter part of the meeting. |
