Five chapters attended the combined meeting and pie social at Whidbey Island on November 16, 2005. Prior to the meeting, members of Pilchuck and Komo Kulshan toured the gardens of Frank Fujioka, Bill Stipe and Meerkerk. Greg Kesterson showed us around his yard and Frank’s garden (which is always beautiful). Bill Stipe’s garden was spectacular. We enjoyed Jake’s “Big Leaf Valley” at Meerkerk (ed note: Glad you like it! Don Kohlenberger and I have been maintaining the valley for the last few years). After that, we all had a wonderful dinner in Coupeville. At the meeting, Mike Stewart from Dover Rhododendron gardens and nursery at Sandy, Oregon gave a slide show on new hybrids and changing trends in the nursery industry. It was a very good meeting and we all enjoyed several different kinds of pie with ice cream (20 types of pie). Fun was had by all.
