The meeting was called to order by Vice-Pres Ellen Moon. Pres Greg Winters is in the process of having chemotherapy treatments. Ellen introduced Laura Kantella who gave a slide presentation on the development of her home garden in Kirkland. Her garden has been “reshaped” many times as Laura became interested in various garden themes. It’s amazing what she was able to fit into 1/3 acre which also included space for her home. Ellen announced that she will step down from her position as V-Pres at the end of May. Barbara Blankenship encouraged the chapter members to volunteer for various committees we need to make the chapter a success. Our annual flower show needs some good leadership to keep it alive. No successful flower show, no bus trips to exotic places. It was moved and seconded the chapter hoop house would be sold to Jerry & Shirley Rock. The hoop house is currently located on their property and they offered to buy it in lieu of receiving payment for the “risers” and laminated pictures they furnished for the flower show. The motion was approved. It was moved and seconded to pay for two tanks of gasoline for the Blankenship vehicles transporting plants to the flower show. The motion was approved. It was also moved and seconded the prize money for best trusses at the flower show would be reduced from $100, $75, and $50 to $50, $40, & $30. The motion was approved. Barbara named those volunteers, and their hours to be on duty this coming weekend at the flower show. We have all hours covered though some will be pulling double shifts. She also noted that 33 persons have signed up for the Oregon Gardens bus trip. The bus will pick up on Saturday, May 14th , at the 116th Street Park and Ride (exit 202) just off I-5. The bus will leave at 7AM. Bring a lunch. The final Pilchuck chapter meeting for the season will be a potluck picnic at the Blankenship home, at 6PM, Thursday, May 19th. The business meeting concluded with an auction and raffle of plants. |
