Bus Trip?

Florence?

Jerry Rock called the meeting to order at our temporary location, the Baptist Church on State Ave.

Our guests for the evening were Frank Fujioka and Greg Kesterson, from Franks gardens on Whidbey Island. Frank showed slides of his trip to Europe, including the gardens in Paris and Copenhagen and Germany. There were some very interesting plant colors in some of his slides. Mindful of a blue carnation Fred Kirby displayed at one of our flower shows in Everett.

Frank mention how that grafting of plants was the propagation of choice in Europe because of the extreme alkaline condition of the soil.

Fred and Wayne reported on the upcoming, Mother’s Day plant show on Camano Island. We will have two 10x10 canopy locations in the gravel area of the site. Wayne has submitted the application for those sites. We should be able to have about 25 different varieties of plants for sale, and hopefully hundreds of trusses.

(Our show may be announced in the Herald “Home & Garden” section, and we might even have a reporter there).

The possibility of a Spring bus trip to Florence, Oregon, May 19 - 20, was presented by Dave Hammond. (It was later learned that the cost of tour bus could be several thousand dollars, and Vern would not be available for the whole trip.)

Our April 5th meeting will be held in the same “Fellowship Hall”, First Baptist Church, 81st and State Avenue. The program will feature Len Miller’s Garden.

Thank you to Komo Kulshan for attending our meeting and bringing the treats.

A successful raffle and plant auction closed out the meeting.

Secretary Special Announcement: Pauline Schultz, wife of our chapter co-founder, “Amby” Schultz, passed away Friday, March 19th, having lost her battle with cancer.
