The meeting was called to order by Pres. Jerry Rock, who welcomed Jane Smith’s friend Mike, who hails from Arizona. It was noted there were no minutes from the previous meeting due to a mishap with Rhododendron Species, “Carnivore” The Treasurer reported on the funds in the checking account, and the current value of the CD’s Fred Kirby and Wayne Lawson gave an update on the upcoming Flower Show on Mother’s Day weekend at Camano Island. We have 2 ten foot square sites available. Fred and Wayne will go check the area out before the next meeting. There was no Meerkerk report because of the absence of our Newsletter Editor, Greg Winters. There is no scheduled speaker for February, but we may possibly get Frank Fujioka to visit us in March. Chuck Blankenship presented a very good program on grafting. Several examples of grafting methods were demonstrated, and the members got to do “hands on” grafting . A “fail safe” use of the rubber band was demonstrated by Chuck. The meeting closed with a raffle and successful auction. ___________________________________________________ Presidential Musings There is hope for the end of winter and welcome of spring! Our daffidils are poking up and showing themselves. If the weather holds now is a good time to clean up broken rhody branches and other debris. This is also the time to fertilize your rhodies. I recommend the Komo Kulshan blend. It is available at UAP on Highway 20 heading west at the grain elevators.
February is our annual potluck! Fred Kirby has volunteered to pickup fried chicken furnished by the club. Members need to bring potluck dishes, plates and flatware. The club will provide the coffee and tea.
March will be a joint meeting with Komo Kulshan! Our guest speaker is none other than Frank Fujioka! His PowerPoint presentation is absolutely beautiful! Plus you will see rhodies that exist only in Frank's mind since he is a hybridizing rhodoholic!
Please take a minute and call Dave Hammond at 360-435-9206 and wish him good health. Dave has been very ill. We wish him a quick recovery. |
