RSF Spring plant sale

The meeting was called to order by VP Carolyn Hansen, because Pres Jerry and Shirley Rock were still on a cruise vacation.

The Treasurer’s report showed there was $1090.53 in the checking account and Frontier Bank CD’s valued at $4857.31 Fred Kirby mentioned there were other banks in the area that appear to have higher interest rates than what we are currently getting at Frontier. The Treasurer will look into that.

Cheryl Arney introduced her friend, Diane Mumaw, as a new member of the Pilchuck Chapter. She was offered a plant for joining and it seems she also won other plants during the raffle. Welcome Diane.

Carolyn then introduced Katie Bach, from Cedar Grove Compost, who presented a slide show on her company’s processing of waste products from industrial and residential sources. We were shown the steps in the process of producing compost and the fact that food waste was now being used in the composting process. The company was started in 1989 on a 28 acre site.

Kevin Jones made contact with the Camano Island Farmers Market. It appears we’ll need the equivalent of 12 tables for our plant and cutting display. It might be easier to make tables with plywood and saw horses. More on this at a later meeting.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP. 2006/07 DUES MUST BE PAID BY OUR NOVEMBER 2, MEETING TO RECEIVE THE NEXT ISSUE OF THE QUARTERLY JOURNAL.

The raffle and auction was conducted as the evening meeting came to a close.
