The meeting was called to order by Past President Greg Winters, who then passed the “gavel” to the new Chapter President Jerry Rock. Jerry then introduced Don Smart, District 2 President, who brought us up to date on the latest events planned for the Rhododendron Conference to be held in 2009. The convention will be held in Everett, in May of 2009, and the site most probable for the gathering will be the newly renovated hotel just off I-5. Several committees have already been formed, including the plant sales be headed up by Dave & Joan Hammond, and their crew. Don informed us he is moving up the chain of command with ARS, and is looking forward to being the President of the ARS soon. It appears our Chapter Flower Show at the Everett Mall is just not working out. In the past few years, including 2006, the revenue receive doesn’t justify the extensive effort it takes to put on a show in that location. Kevin Jones reported on the success he’s had at the Camano Island “Farmer’s Market” with his plant displays, and encouraged us to take a look at that option. It is unknown what the future of Comeford Park in Marysville, will be but that has been a successful location for the Fuchsia Society in the past couple years. Kevin will look into some of the hoops we have to jump through to get a booth in Camano Island. Even though these may be one day events, we still need volunteers to man the “front lines”. Next month’s program will be on the subject of composting. We will have Katie Bach, of Cedar Grove Compost as our guest speaker for this program. Bring your questions. Jerry and Shirley Rock presented a slide show on the Warren Berg gardens for our enjoyment. This prompted a request that chapter members put together a ‘slide show’ of their gardens for future programs. The treasurer received dues from several members, new and old, and left a reminder that dues must be paid by the NOVEMBER 15TH meeting in order to receive the next issue of the ARS Quarterly Journal. And please make your checks out to Pilchuck Chapter ARS. Thank you. The chapter currently has 43 members. There was a raffle and a lively auction lead by Jerry Rock, to close out the evenings events. |
