March 6, 2008 The meeting was called to order by Pres Jerry Rock. Wayne Lawson gave a report on the upcoming Flower Show in Mount Vernon, Saturday, May 10th. We will set up two 10x10 canopies the afternoon of the 9th. We are looking forward to a good set-up crew and plenty of help at the show. We will try to obtain 250 plants for sale. A selection of various varieties has been selected and now the search is on to obtain those plants. Cheryl Arne is heading up that team. A sign up sheet was passed around for the May 17 - 18 Oregon bus trip. We need 40 people to sign (20 couples), and the cost for the bus will be $25/person + Motel & Meals. The two Oriental gardens have an entry fee of prox $5 & $8 each. Shirley Rock informed us she is now the Chairwoman of the ARS Membership Committee, and will be coordinating efforts with District Leaders and Chapters to improve membership. Jerry appointed Fred Kirby, Dave Hammond, Carolyn Hansen and Wayne Lawson to be on the nominating committee. They will be looking for candidates for the office of President and Vice-President. Jerry and Shirley presented a slide show of Rhododendron plants that may represent the plants we’ll have in Mount Vernon or even “wanna-bees” for our gardens. There were good comments on leaf longevity, and plant structures. The meeting wound down with a raffle and auction. Lots of prizes for the twelve members present. From Shirley Rock on March 30th: May 17th - 18th Bus trip to Oregon, stay at the Best Western in Vancouver (9420 NE Van Mall Dr). Dave will fax the list of names to the hotel after Thursday's meeting. After that, we can call 360-256-0707 (no 1-800) to make our own reservations. We should state that we are with the Pilchuck Chapter, ARS, bus tour and Dave Hammond is our representative. That should give us a group rate.
