February 7, 2008 The meeting was called to order by President Jerry Rock, who acknowledged our guest Don Smart, President of the Western Regional ARS. It was hard to hold back, but Jerry gave an eloquent introduction to the awarding of the ARS Bronze Medal before presenting it to Barbara Blankenship for her outstanding service to our chapter. Barbara had wondered why she hadn’t been able to find the latest edition of the ARS Quarterly, which had been hidden by her husband so she wouldn’t see the article. The previously printed minutes of the January meeting were approved and the treasurer’s report was given. Don Smart presented some of the accomplishments and needs of the 2009 ARS Convention to be held in Everett, Washington. Dave Hammond presented the itinerary for the May 18-19 bus trip to Oregon. There will be a total of 4 gardens to visit with a layover in Hillsboro. Dave calls it our American Asian Tour. Be prepared to have a great time with lots of Rhodys and other plants available. The Flower Show at the Master Gardener Foundation in Mt Vernon, will be on Saturday, May 10th. Volunteers are needed. Fred Kirby, Cheryl Arney and Kevin Jones will coordinate our participation. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic Potluck, and then participated in a Raffle and enthusiastic Auction. |
