PILCHUCK CHAPTER - ARS Meeting Minutes November 6, 2008 The meeting was called to order by Pres Barbara Blankenship, and she acknowledged our special guest for the evening, Amber Leckenby, the daughter of Jerry & Shirley Rock. Did you look closely at you last ARS Journal? Chuck Blankenship has two Rhodys registered. One is “Fragrant Sensation” and the other is “William Lewis”. God articles on both plus a picture of “William Lewis” on page 235. The Treasurer reported we need to pay for the Chapter Insurance of $62.50 for the Fiscal Year Ending August 31, 2009. A motion was made to pay that amount. MSA It was reported that up to 80 plants have been secured for the May 2009 Flower Show in Mt Vernon. We plan to have approximately 250 plants all together for the show. Jerry Rock gave a brief description of the effects of Tel-Star on garden insects. The granular product is to be used sparingly, and is quite toxic. Cheryl Arney headed up our show this evening which was the making of swags and wreaths. Many buckets of materials were available, and after learning some of the basics from Cheryl the members got involved. Many good looking swags were made before the project came to an end. Many desserts were available to feed the famished while the Swag/Wreath project was under way. Thanks to those who provided the goodies. The evening ended with a raffle and auction. Respectfully submitted Marie Lawson - Secretary January Birthdays

Garden Pests cont’d from page 1
Since we could not see dog tracks, our digging dog was off the hook. We determined that it was a grey squirrel who wanted to see what I was burying. We bought rat traps next. He did not spring the traps and he stopped digging up the bulbs. Guess he was satisfied or gave up. If you have a gardening story, please send it in to share.
